In 2006 whilst builders were renovating a building in Paddock Drain opposite the Market House in the centre of Castle Cary, a hoard of coins was discovered.
The hoard consists of 152 silver half crowns, shillings and sixpences from the reign of Edward VI, Elizabeth I, James I and Charles I. It is now in the Taunton Museum.
